National Peasants Party presidential flag bearer Robert Kasibante has urged Ugandans to turn up in large numbers on polling day and remain at polling stations to safeguard their votes, warning against alleged intimidation aimed at forcing voters to leave immediately after casting their ballots.
Kasibante made the call while addressing supporters in Makindye Division during his ongoing presidential campaign.
He cautioned voters against succumbing to threats from individuals he said have been discouraging citizens from staying at polling stations to monitor the electoral process.
“Protect your vote and do not allow it to be stolen. Do not be intimidated into leaving,” Kasibante told supporters, emphasising the importance of civic vigilance in ensuring credible elections.
The NPP candidate began his Makindye campaign trail at Katwe Market, where he was welcomed by enthusiastic supporters.
The area was awash with excitement as backers waved campaign posters, performed motorcycle stunts, and climbed trees to catch a glimpse of their candidate.
From Katwe, Kasibante toured several parts of the division, including Nkere and central Makindye.
In some areas, he addressed crowds from his campaign vehicle, while in others he walked through neighbourhoods, greeting residents and engaging directly with supporters.
Addressing voters during the tour, Kasibante pledged that if elected, his administration would begin addressing key challenges affecting communities by the 15th of next month, with a particular focus on unemployment and broader development concerns.
He urged residents to participate fully in the electoral process and to elect leaders who, he said, would remain accountable to the people.
Youth from nearby informal settlements joined the rallies, singing campaign songs and energising the crowds.
Some spoke directly to Kasibante, describing the difficult living conditions they face, including poor housing, and appealed for intervention to improve their welfare.
“Our lives are very difficult in the ghettos. We appeal to you to help us improve our living conditions,” the youths said.
Other supporters echoed calls for change, expressing confidence in Kasibante’s leadership and his commitment to addressing grassroots challenges.
“We want change, and we are fully committed to supporting Kasibante,” several supporters said.
Kasibante is expected to continue his campaign with a tour of various areas in Luweero District, where he will seek to mobilise further support ahead of the elections.
